Incredible committment, enthusiasm, first hand familiarity with wild elephants, and skill with the tough and woody Lantana are among the gifts that the indigenous community of artisans has brought to the creation of these herds of elephants with stories to tell.
research & design
Conceptualised by Ruth Ganesh & Tarsh Thekaekara and designed by Shubhra Nayar, the exhibition has been preceded by Ruth's unique fund-raiser exhibitions of giant sculpture, Tarsh's work with elephants, lantana and his relationship with the indigenous artisans, and Shubhra's work with design for performance and larger-than-life puppetry. This work was made possible by the extensive on-ground research by The Shola Trust around elephants, their unique personalities and the people they share landscapes with. Every elephant has been crafted and delivered through the work of foundational work by Ranjini Janaki, Kutty, Subhash Gautam, Tariq Thekaekara and many others on the team.
